Cannabis enthusiasts and casual users alike are intrigued by the rise of delta-8 tetrahydrocannabinol (THC). But what is delta-8, how does it affect you, and what delta-8 products are worth checking out? There’s still a lot to learn about the newest development in cannabis, but here is everything to know about delta-8 if you’re planning on incorporating it into your cannabis product regimen.

What is Delta-8?

Delta-8 is one of the many compounds found in cannabis. It is a psychoactive THC compound similar to delta-9 THC, the compound most commonly associated with marijuana. While delta-8 is THC, it has a different structure than delta-9, making it significantly less potent. You can think of it as something slightly stronger than CBD but not giving you the pronounced high of delta-9.

Benefits and Risks of Delta-8

Delta-8 is still new to researchers, but it’s believed to provide similar relaxation and euphoric effects to delta-9 but milder. It may also have similar effects to CBD, such as minor pain relief. It can take anywhere from 30 minutes to an hour to feel the results, and the effects may last three to 8 hours depending on the strength and the person taking it. Overall, it may be a good option for those who enjoy the results of delta-9 but don’t want a lower potency high.

Because delta-8 and delta-9 are similar, they share many of the same side effects. Delta-8 may cause red eyes, dry mouth, increased heart rate, slowed reaction times, anxiety, or trouble with coordination. Like delta-9, many effects will wear off after a few hours as the substance leaves the system.

Finding Delta-8 Products

If you want something slightly more potent than CBD but don’t want the full-on high of delta-9, delta-8 products may be the right choice. You can find delta-8 in similar products to CBD, but the two most common ways to use delta-8 are with tinctures and gummies.

Delta-8 Tinctures

Tinctures are oils and one of the most common uses of delta-8 and CBD. Delta-8 tinctures come in various strengths ranging from 200mg to 1000mg or more per bottle. Like CBD, the delta-8 oils tend to come with a dropper to help you measure the correct dosage. You can administer the oil orally or mix it into a favorite beverage or food.

Delta-8 Gummies

Delta-8 gummies are edibles infused with delta-8. They’re perfect for subtlety and quick dosing, with each piece containing a premeasured delta-8. The strength of delta-8 may vary depending on the brand but typically range from 10 to 40mg of delta-8 per piece. The GEO Delta-8 Gummies contain 30mg of hemp-derived delta-8 per piece and are perfect for promoting relaxation and may help reduce minor pain or anxiety.

Finding the Right Potency

Like CBD, delta-8 affects everyone differently. If you’re new to delta-8, always start with the lowest potency and administer the lowest recommended amount. You can try a more potent dose if you’re not feeling the desired effects after a few hours. Remember, delta-8 is a THC and may cause a high or intoxicated feeling, so make sure you’re using it in a safe environment and taking it responsibly.
